Yippee! The digital advertising age is here...

According to the people at Internet Advertising Bureau and PriceWaterhouseCoopers in their annual report of ad spending, Internet advertising revenue hit $21 Billion.

From my point of view, these figures will have a flow on affect with more and more Australia companies looking to dip their toes into the digital & social media world. I can't wait!

New social networking book titled - AOC 2.0: Why Don't People Get It?

Why don’t people get it? Well if you’re a marketer…you should.

What was a social networking experiment has now turned into a roaring success.

In my view, the content of the book is not important…275 marketing bloggers ranting on a virtual soapbox will not make it a classic, but it has attracted some very big hitters in the marketing world – so it’s worth a read.

What’s ground breaking about this book is how Gavin Heaton and Drew McLellan moved their conversation to action, embracing the essence of social networking and using Web 2.0 technologies. In my eyes, Gavin and Drew are true visionaries of this new brave and ever changing world.

My contribution is titled The Social Networking Champion - The New Black. And in my eyes, Gavin and Drew are true Social Networking Champions!

Initially, I was going to write a chapter titled 'Why Don't Politicians Get It? based on issues relating to our singing Australian Federal MP Peter Garrett. Unfortunately, we are restricted to 400 words.

AOC 2.0: Why people don’t get it? Is due to be released mid August 2008.

Finally, in true blogger fashion, I’d like to indulge in some social networking ‘Link Love’ – here are the proposed authors:

Adam Crowe, Adrian Ho, Aki Spicer, Alex Henault, Amy Jussel, Andrew Odom, Andy Nulman, Andy Sernovitz, Andy Whitlock, Angela Maiers, Ann Handley, Anna Farmery, Armando Alves, Arun Rajagopal, Asi Sharabi, Becky Carroll, Becky McCray, Bernie Scheffler, Bill Gammell, Bob Carlton, Bob LeDrew, Brad Shorr, Bradley Spitzer, Brandon Murphy, Branislav Peric, Brent Dixon, Brett Macfarlane, Brian Reich, C.C. Wow...iPaper

Googling Ray Poynter and already, I've learn't about a great Web 2.0 product called iPaper.

Built by a company called Scrib, iPaper is a document format designed for the Internet. iPaper is positioned as a fast and light alternative to PDF and is viewable in almost any web browser.

It's free, easy to use and anyone can convert documents to iPaper. My type of product!

However, I've found one fly in the ointment - I don't think MAC users can see the iPaper document below, if you can please tell me.

Australian Marketing Institute's Hottest Ticket of the Year?

Suspension.
Originally uploaded by Andrew Kung Photography

Social Networking...Social Media...Web 2.0 are the hottest buzzwords around.

It is hardly surprising given what leading marketers are calling the future of advertising, that eventually the Australian Marketing Institute would jump onboard and invite a decent speaker on the subject. In this case & in their words 'one of the world's leading experts on Web 2.0, Ray Poynter.'

I've never heard of him. So what!

Collaboration is at the heart of Web 2.0 and Social Networking, so I think its a must that marketers go see what he has to say.

Its always great to hear another persons perspective, especially from the other side of the world. Welcome Ray.

Why not send him to Newcastle? Its only half past 2008 and still theres no events planned for us people in the second largest city in NSW.
